Baptism
The
*High Head baptismal register records the following:
"Anno 1737"
"August 18 Was William Son of William Barton Baptized."
Presumably this man. The same register also mentions the 8 February 1735 baptism of "
Jane, Daughter of Wm. Barton" - his elder sister? (Though Richard Hargreaves has her born in 1732). However there is no sign in the register of younger siblings Isabell (b.1741), Mary (b.1743),
Robert (1747-1795) or Mary (b.1751). Perhaps they were baptized elsewhere.
Death Notice
The following death notice is in the
Carlisle Patriot, Saturday June 6 1818 (held at the British Library):
"On Wednesday last, at Ivegill, in his 80th year, Mr. William Barton, much respected."
If this William were born after 3 June 1737, he would have been 80 years old (technically in his 81st year - but this is an easy sort of mistake to introduce), so it seems likely that this notice does refer to this man.
